World Book Day 2019
This worldwide celebration takes Gibraltar by storm on the 7th of March. Organised by UNESCO, one of the international flagbearers for promoting culture in all of its shapes and sizes, World Book Day in Gibraltar takes the guise of dressing up and literature-based events at sites around the city, including Gibraltar restaurants and bars. With the library taking the helm, many workshops, talks and activities designed for children and adults alike ensure that even if you’re not a big reader, you’ll want to be by the evening!
Drama Festival 2019
Gibraltar has a wide range of stages and auditoriums, sustaining the local passion for art with ample dance, music and theatre events throughout the year. The Annual Gibraltar Drama Festival brings a wide range of local performers to the city, bringing a community atmosphere and a passion for theatre. The Drama Festival is open to all theatre groups and performers in Gibraltar and runs from the 18th to the 23rd of March. During this period, you’ll be able to see a range of age groups and different styles battle it out for the thousand pounds in prize money for best show. With other awards including best actor, actress and director, head on down to Ince’s Hall Theatre for a week of thrilling theatrical feats. Think the Edinburgh Fringe festival, but with much better weather!
World Pool Masters XXVI
This exciting pub game championship brings the best pool players from around the world into the 24-player field of Tercentenary Hall in the Victoria Stadium. In this atmospheric stadium, guests can watch the participants battle it out on a race to a seven-match standard, before the winners take home a share of the £100,000 prize fund. This unique sporting event is a yearly staple of the Gibraltar scene and is broadcast across the globe.
Gibraltar International Comic Convention
Comic conventions are always a fun day out for fans. With a range of cosplayers and talks on everything from science fiction and fantasy stars to cartoon artists, you can find an incredible range of events and showcases at the Gibraltar Comic Con. Last year saw stars from Game of Thrones and Star Trek, alongside many talented artists and storytellers. Whether you’re a sci fi aficionado or a comic book cultist, the Gibraltar International Comic Convention is a must visit weekend.
Spring Zarzuela 2019
This traditional Spanish show is a yearly staple in Gibraltar, bringing a wide range of singers, dancers, and traditional costumes to the John Mackintosh Hall in Gibraltar. The Spring Zarzuela is a brilliant example of the cultural heritage of Gibraltar and ensures a great day out for all ages. The Zarzuela takes place every year and this year falls on the 10th and 11th of May.
